Saudi Arabia has turned to Israel for intelligence assistance as the Houthis rapidly expand their positions along Yemen’s Red Sea coast and intensify attacks against the kingdom, according to diplomatic sources in the region.
The discussions have been conducted through U.S. Central Command and have focused primarily on intelligence that could help Saudi Arabia defend against Houthi attacks and better assess the terror group’s deployments, the Jerusalem Post reported Tuesday.
The request comes as Riyadh faces an increasingly difficult military situation in Yemen, with Houthi forces advancing around the Bab el-Mandab while missiles and drones threaten Saudi cities and critical infrastructure.
The reported cooperation is particularly notable given the absence of formal diplomatic relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Israel has extensive intelligence and operational experience combating the Iran-backed Houthis, including carrying out repeated strikes against the terror group in Yemen.
