Shayetet 13 commandos rappelled from a helicopter overnight Tuesday and landed on the roof of a building in the city of Yatta, near Chevron, as part of an unusual operation by the naval commando unit in the southern Chevron Hills.
Footage circulated from the city shows the commandos being lowered from the air onto the roof of the building. At the same time, large IDF forces, including numerous military vehicles, entered Yatta and deployed throughout the area.
Arab media outlets initially claimed that it was a military training exercise. However, a military source clarified that Shayetet 13 commandos were carrying out an operational activity at the site.
The IDF stated: “This was an operational activity by Shayetet 13 in the southern Chevron Hills. Due to information security considerations, we cannot provide further details.”
Over the past year, various operations have been carried out by the Israel Police’s Yehuda and Shomron District and IDF forces in the Yehuda Brigade, including enforcement operations against illegal vehicles and weapons, as well as targeted arrests of suspects involved in terrorist activity.
