DANON FIRES BACK: UN Rights Chief Demands Access For Gaza Investigators

UN human rights chief Volker Turk called on Israel to allow international investigators into Gaza to collect evidence of possible war crimes, drawing a sharp rebuke from Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon.

Turk said remains appearing to belong to entire families are being uncovered in Gaza City, warning that the discoveries represent only a fraction of those buried beneath the rubble.

The UN estimates that more than 8,000 missing people remain under the destruction. Turk accused Israel of blocking heavy equipment needed to clear debris and urged authorities to preserve burial sites and identifying evidence.

Danon rejected the accusations, saying Turk ignores Hamas’s deliberate embedding among civilians and construction of terrorist infrastructure beneath populated areas.

“With Turk, Hamas disappears, the facts disappear, and only Israel remains in the dock,” Danon said.

He accused the commissioner of distorting events and judging Israel before the facts are established.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s civil defense agency reported that a seven-story building collapsed overnight in western Gaza City, killing at least 14 people, including five children. It reported 14 injuries and estimated approximately 100 others were trapped.
