President Donald Trump released a special video praising Yaniv Hayun, the Israeli plumber who helped subdue the co-pilot during the attempted terror attack aboard an Israel-bound Flydubai flight.

“I just want to thank and congratulate Yaniv Hayun, who is an Israeli plumber and he’s a Trump fan,” Trump said. “I’m a fan of his, a big fan. He saved that flight yesterday.”

Trump praised Hayun for entering the cockpit and helping stabilize the aircraft as it began to plunge.

“He did an amazing job,” Trump said. “He got in there and learned how to fly by watching ‘Air disasters’ on television, and he’s my kind of guy. He can be my plumber. He can be whatever he wants to be. What a job he did. He’s a hero.”

Trump concluded by addressing Hayun and his family directly: “I want to just congratulate him and his family. You like me and I like you. Thank you, Yaniv.”

Hayun, 38, from Ness Ziona, was among the Israelis who entered the cockpit after the co-pilot attacked the captain. After returning to Israel, Hayun described pulling the Omani co-pilot away and grabbing the controls as the aircraft began losing altitude.

Hayun later joked about Trump describing him as an Israeli plumber.

“I’m an upgraded plumber,” Hayun said. “He wasn’t wrong. I don’t work at NASA and I don’t deal with space. I deal with dirty pipes, and he was right.”

Hayun said he never dreamed Trump would speak publicly about him, adding that he appreciated the president’s humor.

Hayun was one of four Israelis who sprang into action during the incident, alongside Tzvika Mans, Assaf Rejuan and Dr. Shota Musayev. Musayev, a dentist, entered the cockpit to help fight the attacker and then treated the wounded captain after the co-pilot was subdued.

President Isaac Herzog later announced that he would recommend awarding the four Israelis the Civilian Medal of Valor for their actions.
