A dispute erupted within the opposition after Democrats party chairman Yair Golan said he would work to establish a future government that includes the Islamist Ra’am party, drawing a sharp response from Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman.
Golan said he intends to work with his political partners to form a government that includes Ra’am, arguing that cooperation with the party is necessary to bring about political change.
Liberman quickly rejected the proposal, making clear that he would not support such a coalition.
“He’s apparently under pressure,” Liberman said of Golan, arguing that the Democrats chairman had lost support among Arab voters and was now attempting to regain it.
The exchange highlights a significant disagreement among opposition parties over the potential composition of a government following the upcoming elections, particularly regarding whether Ra’am could serve as a coalition partner.
