Minister Herzog Calls to Compensate Chareidi Construction Freeze Victims

dozer1.jpgMinister of Social Services (Labor) Yitzchak Herzog visited Betar Illit on Tuesday telling his hosts that in his opinion, Betar and other communities in Gush Etzion are in the “public consensus” and will always remain under Israeli sovereignty.

His planned visit focused on his office’s efforts to address the nation’s at-risk youths. He explained that in the view of his office, Betar Illit serves as a model in dealing with the issues impacting the nation’s youth.

He made reference to the government decision to halt construction throughout Yehuda and Shomron, commending Betar Illit’s leaders for not coming out against the cabinet, despite the pain and actual hardships that will result from the prime minister’s decision. He pointed out that in Betar, there are no protests against IDF Civil Administration inspectors and the community remains law-abiding.

He promised he will do his utmost to formulate a plan that will address the needs of families that incur hardship due to the building freeze decision, aware than many couples will now be forced to continue making mortgage payments on homes not being built while having to pay rent in their current home as well.
