U.S. Navy Sailor Killed in Shooting Aboard Future USS John F. Kennedy Aircraft Carrier; Fellow Sailor Detained Pending Investigation


A U.S. Navy sailor was killed in a shooting aboard the future USS John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier early Saturday morning.

The Navy identified the sailor as Boatswain’s Mate Seaman Jesse Braswell of Colorado. The shooting occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m.

A second sailor has been placed in pre-trial confinement in connection with the incident, though no charges have been filed. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is leading the investigation.

The USS John F. Kennedy is currently under construction and is expected to be delivered to the Navy in 2027.
