Türkiye is seeking Russia’s approval to transfer its S-400 air defense systems to a third country as part of an effort to reopen a path to buying F-35 fighter jets from the U.S., according to Bloomberg. The move comes after earlier Turkish proposals, including returning the S-400s to Russia or keeping them under U.S. oversight, failed to gain traction. The S-400 systems remain in Türkiye’s inventory but are not currently operational. U.S. officials have long opposed any arrangement that would leave the Russian system in place alongside the F-35 over concerns it could expose the jet’s stealth capabilities.
