An Iranian-American woman, Dena Karari, has returned to the United States after being detained in Iran for 566 days on espionage charges, her attorney announced.
President Trump said Iran released Karari as a “gesture of goodwill.” Arrested in December 2024, she had remained unable to leave Iran even after her release because authorities confiscated both passports. Karari worked for a U.S. technology company and ran a charity for children in Iran, the New York Times reports.
