IRAN UPDATE: Reports Conflict on Timing of Strait of Hormuz Agreement Amid Ongoing Talks

Despite President Trump’s indications that an agreement may be near, Reuters reported that several key issues remain unresolved and a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is not expected to be finalized immediately.

However, the AP later reported that Iranian and Omani negotiators have completed a draft temporary transit agreement and are awaiting final approval from Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. The agreement, based on the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, is intended to pave the way for renewed U.S.-Iran nuclear negotiations.
