The IDF has established nine military positions inside Syrian territory in recent months, with Reserve Battalion 9308, commanded by Lt. Col. D., currently operating three of them.
The battalion previously served along the Lebanese border. “In Lebanon, it’s generally clearer that you’re dealing with an enemy. Here, the challenge is operating among a civilian population,” Lt. Col. D. said.
The IDF maintains contact with local residents through civil affairs officers and operates inside villages populated by both Druze and Sunni Muslims.
