The Trump administration plans to spend at least $927 million on construction and modernization projects across the White House grounds, including the East Wing ballroom, Lafayette Square upgrades, a new helipad and a visitor screening center, according to records reviewed by The Washington Post.
The funding is being assembled from the Secret Service, White House Military Office and private donors rather than directly from Congress. A federal appeals court has ruled that congressional approval is required for the ballroom construction to continue, and Trump has vowed to appeal.
