White House envoy Steve Witkoff held a previously undisclosed meeting with UAE National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Sardinia last weekend to discuss the Trump administration’s strategy toward Iran, Axios reports.
The talks focused on efforts to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz while dramatically increasing economic pressure on Tehran. The UAE has been a key partner in U.S.-led efforts to move oil tankers through the strait, and Emirati officials have told Washington that any successful sanctions campaign must also target major countries that continue doing business with Iran.
