Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva used his UN General Assembly address to accuse Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government of committing “genocide” in Gaza, declaring that generations of Palestinians will carry the resulting “pain and trauma.”

Lula also praised former PLO leader Yasser Arafat as a “statesman,” as Israel and Netanyahu faced sharp criticism during the opening of the UN gathering in New York.
