Special Visit by the Minister of Housing and Chareidi Representatives at the site where the Chareidi city of Dorot Ilit will be Built

COMMUNICATED CONTENT – Housing Minister Galant: “Dorot Ilit will be a large chareidi city and it is a big step towards realizing the vision of developing the eastern Dan region”

Housing Minister Galant, MK Rabbi Yaakov Asher, Samaria Regional Council Chairman Yossi Dagan, Rabbi Moshe Montag and senior officials of the Housing Ministry arrived at the planned site of the chareidi city in western Samaria. * Rabbi Asher: “The city will be an excellent solution and it is in close proximity to other chareidi population centers in the Dan bloc” * Regional Council head Dagan: “This is a historic moment in which we are building a chareidi city that will provide a low-cost housing solution to the housing shortage”

“You chose an outstanding place. Whoever bought this place apparently knew what he was doing,” said Housing Minister Yoav Galant during a special survey of the grounds of the future chareidi city of Dorot Illit located east of the Dan bloc. The group flew in two helicopters that took off from the Sde Dov airport in Tel Aviv and landed at the site of the  designated city in western Samaria. The tour was accompanied by MK Yaakov Asher, head of Samaria Regional Council Yossi Dagan, Rabbi Moshe Montag, who holds the planning portfolio in the Beit Shemesh municipality, Amit Edri, the Housing Minister chief-of-staff, and the future city’s senior planning and administration officials.

After a short flight, the high-ranking officials landed at the Dorot Illit site. They were impressed by the magnificent mountainous area, with the city of Tel Aviv visible on the horizon. While looking at a large map illustrating the region, Council head Yossi Dagan said to the Housing Minister, “This is a historic moment in the State of Israel in which we are establishing a chareidi city that will provide low-cost housing combined with quality of life. The closeness to the center is important not only in terms of security, but also because it is an essential need of the chareidi community. It is close to Bnei Brak, to Elad and to all the chareidi population centers. It will not be an short process, but I can vouch that the entrepreneurs took the best planners. We, as a council, will mobilize and help as much as we can. It is possible and we can do it.”

Housing Minister Yoav Galant expressed his favorable impression of the place and said to Council head Yossi Dagan, “We will build the settlement here, and it will be slightly bigger than what exists in the council today. This is going to be a chareidi city and whoever chose this amazing place on this mountain ridge knew what he was doing.”

“I see three aspects to this project,” Galant added. “First of all, we are settling the land. When one stands here and sees the landscape, it is unnecessary to explain the significance of its proximity to Dan bloc and all the cities in the center. Second, if there is a way to integrate the chareidi population in this space, I am for it.  And third, I see it as a beginning, proactive and comprehensive step in fulfilling the vision of an eastern Dan bloc. On the level of implementation, we have a ways to go, and I hope that we will expedite the government’s approval together with the planning.”

MK Rabbi Yaakov Asher said during the tour: “I would like to thank Housing Minister Yoav Galant for helping to solve the chareidi housing shortage. He does this for two reasons: from an ideological point of view, to settle the Land of Israel, and also to truly help the chareidi public. And I hope, G-d willing, that when this dream becomes a reality, it will be an excellent solution that will be close to Bnei Brak and Modi’in Illit. I congratulate Rabbi Yaakov Rosenthaler who is behind the initiative.”

Rabbi Moshe Montag, who holds the planning portfolio in the Beit Shemesh municipality, said during the tour: “From my acquaintance with the city planning team, these are experienced and dynamic people who took the subject very seriously and are constantly working to advance the process. The extensive planning on the ground will accelerate the building permits.”

The Dorot Ilit project is planned on private land located between Elkana and Ma’ale Shomron. It was purchased by chareidi entrepreneurs as a solution to the severe housing shortage in the chareidi sector, and is located in the eastern part of Gush Dan (25 minutes drive from Bnei Brak), overlooking the cities of Petah Tikva, Rosh Ha’ayin, Elad and Kfar Saba and the Ben Gurion airport. There is a government decision from 25 years ago to designate the land for construction because it is of high strategic importance.

According to the plan, a new chareidi city similar to Betar Illit and Modi’in Illit will be established which will provide housing for the sector. The project is being energetically promoted by a professional planning firm with extensive experience in the area, and they are already working on the urban planning. This project enjoys wide support in the government and the Knesset, from the Housing Minister through the chareidi representatives to the Samaria Regional Council, the latter of which is pushing hard for the project.
