The situation is literally life-threatening
Maran Sar HaTorah R' Chaim Kanievsky shlit"a knows the situation well, from close up, and feels the anguish of his close student. Due to this, he summoned the administrators of Kupat Ha'ir and pleaded with them to launch a campaign specifically for this dear student of his.
But this wasn't enough for Maran Sar HaTorah shlit"a. He sat down and, with considerable difficulty, penned a rare letter in which he requests the reader to come to the aid of his student in this language:
" Here is my dear friend the gaon R' shlit"a, the son of my dear friend the great gaon zt"l, who learns Torah assiduously day and night, and his financial situation is tremendously difficult, to the point where it is literally life-threatening, and it's impossible to describe the magnitude of the mitzvah of whoever helps him by giving a generous donation; and in this merit he should merit an abundance of Heavenly blessings."
Maran Sar HaTorah shlit"a refers to him as "my dear friend…son of my dear friend." Those "in the know," who are close to Maran, can bear witness that those who merit this "title" are few and far between. Such a measure of closeness with one of his students is uncommon, usually found among those of his students who have been learning with him for many years.
” He…learns Torah assiduously day and night, and his financial situation is tremendously difficult, to the point where it is literally life-threatening…" Maran Sar HaTorah shlit"a categorizes this situation as one of "mamash pikuach nefesh"- literally life-threatening!
"…And it's impossible to describe the magnitude of the mitzvah of whoever helps him by giving a generous donation; and in this merit he should merit an abundance of Heavenly blessings." These blessings, which accrue to whomever gives generously, accompany the donor at all times, wherever he goes. Not only this, but
Maran Sar HaTorah shlit"a will be davening on behalf of all who contribute NIS 290 (75$) to this appealevery erev Shabbos at candlelighting time for the next six weeks, the auspicious weeks of Shovavi"m. Yes, for you Maran Sar HaTorah shlit"a will storm the gates of Heaven!
Time is running out! The crushing situation doesn't bear delay, and this extraordinary talmid chacham is suffering greatly- he desperately needs our help to extricate him from his predicament… we must not ignore the personal letter of Maran shlit"a, pleading for our help.
