The #1 tourist spot in the entire US is Times Square

The #5 is the metropolitan Museum of Art

the #7 is the American Museum of Natural History

    Budget?
How many days can you take off?
    Is minyan an issue?
Can you stay over Shabbos, or does it need to be mid-week?
    Age?
    Physical ability?
Location? (unless you are open to travel)

Thank you for all your help. I'm a young girl from new York area. Since I'm at the age where either my friends are married, in college or working it's not working out with ANY of them. I wish I could go with a friend. Also, since I'm alone im not going anywhere over night or for a shabbos. I need ideas of things to do by day that can be done on my own and still have a good time.

Budget isn't really to big of an issue, but not spending a fortune either.

I think you need to figure out what "feels" like a vacation to you. Although I'd have fun in the city, it would not feel like a vacation to me. There's a website you might want to check out called Time Out New York (www.Tony.com). They also have one for kids called tonykids.com. It lists all the different activities in and around new York (Tri-State area included) and divides it by day trips, weekend trips, free events, festivals etc..
    You might find something there.

you can have a day at a spa.
    you can tour ny.
you can go on a 3 hour boat ride around ny.
you can go to the zoo or aquarium.
if you ahve facebook, post that you would like to do something fun on your page and maybe one of your buddies will want to do something fun as well.

Its going to happen that im "finding" new friends and then going on a mini vacation with them. it doesnt have to be a "vacation" either, i would just like to take a day off. the last time i took off from work was in the begining of the year. i love NYC, but not sure of things to do on my own.

adorable, I think most people going on vacation like doing those things, that's what i would love to do. the point of this thread though is that i cant do those things myself.

I much prefer going places by myself. I guess I'm selfish.

haifagirl- i would also much more prefer going places myself, i have always been like that. but there is a limit to what can be done by yourself. theres shopping and sightseeing. and going for manicures which i love doing myself. i dont think its selfish.
