There is an interesting medrash at the back of the tanna devei eliyahu, that in the year when moshiach comes all the nations of the world will be fighting with each other and Iran will start a war with his neighbour and the neighbour will go to America to seek advice and the leader of Iran will then destroy part of the world, and the Jews will be frightened and say where shall we go and then moshiach will come.
So, actually what does it say? I mean, I see your interpretation, but also I’m curious what it says.

If you translate ??? as Iran, ???? as His neighbor, ???? as America, and ?? ????? ???? as Part of the world, then Popa’s accusation is unwarranted.
If ?? ????? ???? is literal, how can the rest of the medrash take place?

Any medrash or chazal about moshiach and when he will come and what will happen is purely alegorical and can’t be taken at face value. There’s only one thing we do know. That after moshiach comes klal yisroel won’t have shibbud malchus from anybody but will be free and have a malchus in eretz yisroel. Each Jew will not have his own goyishe servant and we will all go on working and living. As an aside, Edom is never considered America. Usually that’s Russia. But keep on dreaming.
How do you know they are all purely alegorical? You privy to some information that we aren’t?

What makes you say America is not Edom? And Russia is?
Can you back this up with any sources?
Can anybody be sure who Edom is today? And aren’t most (or all) Western nations good candidates?
(If anything, Russia is a huge country made up of different ethnicities, some of them with Asian or Semitic origins, so it would seem they might not be Edom.)
