It’s even okay to adopt a homeless cat out of compassion, or to keep your chickens in a place with plenty of room.

October 24, 2014 5:59 pm at 5:59 pm #1036955eftachbchinorMemberYou know how some people would never hurt a fly? I would. And a centipede. If I could catch him quickly enough. If not, then with deodorant. And all the ants on the counter. And the spider lurking in my ceiling’s corner. And MOSQUITOES. The nerve they have, sucking my blood without asking or paying. And the bees in the Succah!!! They scare the daylights out of me, when I’m minding my private business like slurping my own soup, and that nasty thing buzzes in my ear. For sure! But not a cockroach. Can’t stand that CRUNCH. And I’d hurt any other animal kingdom thing that dare disturb my piece of mind. If it doesn’t spray me, etc.

So don’t eat them!
They make great pets and you will never have a rodent problem if you have a cat.

October 26, 2014 12:30 am at 12:30 am #1036959👑RebYidd23ParticipantThe irony was noticed but rejected because it was not considered worthy.
October 26, 2014 12:59 am at 12:59 am #1036960yytzParticipantRebYid, you’re right, and there are many sources (from halacha to stories about tzaddikim) that support what you’re saying. You should read the book Vision of Eden by R’ Dovid Sears. A version is available for free online, I think.
October 26, 2014 1:30 am at 1:30 am #1036961sirvoddmortMemberOK, it wasn’t the classiest comment. But that does not make it any less ironic, and it is amusing to find that it warrants a serious reply regarding the usefulness of cats, which completely misses the (admittedly lame) point.
