    For those who were around during that brief period that Mod1097’s username didn’t begin with (Not A) and the even briefer period when his subtitle read, ‘not a mod–not even close,’ will likely be perplexed as to the meaning of the subtitle. ‘not even close’ implies that it’s possible to be ‘close’ to being a Mod. How?

    So I put my brain to overwork and devised three theories but promptly rejected them.

    1)not even close in posting tendencies–d’hainu Mod1097’s CR activities are not full time, as are mods’. Rejection: How could the mods know that after 6 minutes of his inception?

    2)perhaps some mods only approve an/or some mods only assign subtitles (and some do both). ‘close’ would mean having one job but not the other. Rejection: Assigning subtitles is not a function of mods. (Mods may be able to do it, but one who cannot can still be a moderator.) Therefore, assigning subtitles is not close to being a mod, and not being able to assign subtitles is not migareiah.

    3)’close’ here refers to being in the same proximity of a mod. Rejection: it should have said ‘not even close by’ or ‘not even close to one.’

    If anyone can help resolve this issue, I will be eternally indebted to you.

    sdd, you are looking into things too much… (The way you are analyzing it so much, you give the impression that THIS (LINK) was in reference to you!?

    Lior, someone made a username Mod1097 which was changed to (Not a)Mod1097. S/He is not a Mod and the UN has been blocked.

    4)all the mods have an unique style of posting that us mortals do not have. by saying he wasnt even “close” to being a mod, the mod was saying that this fake mods style was so far removed from the style of the mods when posting. but had he imitated this “mod style” of posting, he would have been “close” to being a mod.

    hmmmmm, very interesting!

    i tried changing my user name to mod something one time and it didnt work, later on i saw the rules which states one cannot make a username with mod (moderator)

    how did this one slip through?

    Moderators have UNs “YW Moderator-##”, and do not have “Member” as a subtitle. After a few minutes, it became clear that this was an attempt (although possibly a playful, not malicious one) to impersonate a moderator, so we put an end to it.

    If you don’t type http://www. (or at least www.) before the address you’re trying to link to, it will be automatically prefaced with http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/, resulting in

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/google.com

    for “google.com” in the markup.

    This was why the original link went to

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/behind-the-scenesmods/page/2#post-541363

    Mod(s):

    Did “Mod1097” try to post more than the two times

    that are visible, or was it just that people were

    mistaking “Mod1097” for a mod? (If the former, it

    might be amusing for us to see those posts…)

    No

    Mod(s):

    How then could it become clearer only later

    that it was an attempt to impersonate a mod?

    I assume what you meant to say is that it soon

    became clear that people would still mistake

    “Mod1097” for an actual mod despite the subtitle.

    No, I meant what I said.

    I’d assume MOD means that after mod1097 asked for the subtitle to be changed, it became obvious that s/he didn’t want those incriminating words, i.e. people would realize that it’s not a real mod.

    I think you’re giving yourself too much credit.

    Objection! That is an attempt to pry personal information and reach conclusions.

    Randomex, I noticed that, but I did have www. (I copied the URL which automatically has www before it)

    sdd, you still have not answered my question!

    SIDI:

    I was unsure, and should’ve put a question mark in the original post.
