Telegrams are more nostalgic.January 25, 2015 12:36 am at 12:36 am #1065138
I never tried a telegraph to dislike it, so I’m voting telegraph! There is an old maaseh that the Americans said they dug down 100 feet and found wires from 200 years ago, so 200 years ago they were so technologically advanced that they had telephones. The Israelis said they dug down a thousand feet and found no wires, so two thousands years ago they were so advanced they already had cellphones. On that note I formally cast my vote for the telegraph.January 25, 2015 12:43 am at 12:43 am #1065139
Instagram??January 25, 2015 12:52 am at 12:52 am #1065140
I would say telegram was more kosher, you dont have these sick video clips made by bored pple being passed around.January 25, 2015 1:14 am at 1:14 am #1065141
YYBC – I do remember hearing that in the dor haflaga they had technology as advanced as it is today, just it was all destroyed 🙂 so maybe we are behind…..January 25, 2015 6:19 am at 6:19 am #1065143

Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms, such as [deleted]. A distinctive feature is that it confines photos to a square shape, similar to Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid images, in contrast to the 4:3 aspect ratio typically used by mobile device cameras. Users can also apply digital filters to their images. The maximum duration for Instagram videos is 15 seconds.
WhatsApp Messenger is an instant messaging app for smartphones that operates under a subscription business model. The proprietary, cross-platform app enables users of select feature phones to use the Internet to transmit communication. In addition to text messaging, WhatsApp can be used to send images, video, and audio media messages. Locations can also be shared through the use of integrated mapping features.January 25, 2015 7:25 am at 7:25 am #1065146
Cozimjewish- there is a famous reb yonasan eibshitz that the migdal bavel was actually a rocket designed to reach the upper celestials. Idk if they whatsapped pictures of the moon from their iPhone 7’s there, if the technology was really more advanced.January 25, 2015 11:48 am at 11:48 am #1065147
First, you’ll have to find a telegraph machine and then one on the recipients side. Good luck with that.January 25, 2015 1:04 pm at 1:04 pm #1065148
YYBC – Idk if they had iphones exactly 😉 but I remember learning that (acc to one meforesh) the “tower” was actually a building in which all the great minds from all over the world gathered together with one aim – to run the world without Hashem (through advanced technology) – thereby “overcoming” Hashem. They were able to produce extremely advanced technology such as what we have today. I didnt make this up, I’m just repeating what I learnt 🙂January 25, 2015 1:09 pm at 1:09 pm #1065149

Telex is an offshoot of the telegraph and is rarely used any more.January 25, 2015 8:24 pm at 8:24 pm #1065157

Goyish goyish goyish. Facebook is an unspeakable topic on YWN, it is anathema to everything it stands for. Fire and water don’t mix. I guess i get to many sms tweets to be properly against twitter. Whatsapp and telegram are just glorified messaging apps, not social media. If you’re against texting ashrecha, but don’t compare it to Facebook.January 27, 2015 4:50 pm at 4:50 pm #1065167

kj chusid, to answer your question seriously, I installed Telegram to check it out. It looks OK, but not that much different from WhatsApp. It does have more functions then WA and is completely free! However, I only have 5 contacts compared to 49 on WhatsApp…
On the Google Play Store, WhatsApp is rated 4.4 (from 22,611,494 ratings; 15,932,661 Five Stars) and Telegram is 4.2 (from 1,069,141 ratings; 614,795 Five Stars). WhatsApp was downloaded over 500 Million times and Telegram 10 Million.
Information as of Jan. 27, 2015
Would be interesting to compare these numbers on Jan. 27, 2016

What’s the point of using this telegrap app if the vast majority of your contacts don’t use it but rather use whatsapp instead?January 28, 2015 12:44 am at 12:44 am #1065172
Lior, that is what I was pointing out, for me it’s 5 to 49! But then, when Facebook started, everyone said what’s the point of using FB when everyone’s on MySpace? Now look where FB is and where MS is… Time will tell!

Beeper?January 28, 2015 4:22 pm at 4:22 pm #1065176
Lior, out of 371 contacts, 49 are on WhatsApp and 5 are on Telegram. 3 of the Telegram contacts are on WhatsApp and 2 are not.
I’m not sure what shpitzfrum is talking about. Maybe there is another messaging app called Beeper…
I don’t see the point in so many different social media/messaging apps and sites that basically do the same thing. But everyone hopes they’ll become famous.
