A Jerusalem police spokesman explains the alertness of border police on Tuesday 10 Tammuz resulted in the prevention of a terrorist attack in Jerusalem. The incident occurred not far from the community of Tekoa, in eastern Gush Etzion, at the Mezmuria Checkpoint.

Security personnel observed a vehicle which they believed to be suspicious. They determined the front and back license plates, which were Israeli (yellow), were different from one another. They instructed the six occupants of the vehicle to step out for inspection. None of the suspects had identity cards.

A search of the vehicle revealed knives, stun grenades, and firebombs inside a bag. The checkpoint was immediately shut down and bomb demolition technicians were summoned to the location.

Police report the preliminary investigation reveals they were planning a terrorist attack in Jerusalem.
