Ofir Winter Being Promoted to Brigadier-General

ofirOne of the heroes of Operation Protective Edge, Givati Brigade Commander Colonel Ofir Winter, is being promoted to the rank of brigadier-general.

Winter, a graduate of the first class of Yeshivat Bnei David, the nation’s first mechina, continues to lead a religious life and his emunah in HKBH came under fire during the counter-terrorism offensive against Hamas in Gaza when he sent a letter to his troops speaking of their mission and Kiddush Hashem and fighting for Hashem and Eretz Yisrael. The mention of HKBH and a “holy mission” was too much for many to handle, demanding the officer be reprimanded for daring to introduce Yiddishkheit to those who work hard to distance themselves from it.

Winter, a decorated officer, makes no effort to hide his hashkafa and his career has suffered as a result. At one point it was believed that he would not be promoted but now, at the age of 44, he is informed he is being promoted. He will become head of Central Command staff.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkott announced field commanders who took part in Operation Protective Edge would be promoted. This includes Winter as well as Golani Brigade Commander Rasan Alian, who will also be promoted to the rank of brigadier-general.
