A Bereaved Father Discusses the Release of Terrorists from Prison

papThe father of Malachi Moshe Rosenfeld HY”D spoke with Kol Chai Radio regarding his son and the release of Arab terrorists from Israeli prisons. Mr. Eliezer Rosenfeld spoke with Kol Chai on Monday, 3 Menachem Av. Malachi was killed in a drive-by shooting attack near Shvut Rachel in Shomron.

Mr. Rosenfeld spoke about the fact the head of the cell responsible for murdering his son and leaving others wounded was among the terrorists released from prison in the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal. “I would not wish to face the Shalit family, only the government, the Knesset which must decide how to release captives and what price must be paid. Perhaps there are other solution or limit the number as when 1,000 terrorists are released for a single captive, this must be discussed and lessons learned…”

Mr. Rosenfeld explained he has his own thoughts as to how terrorists should be dealt with, including those who throw rocks. He calls for dealing with a hard hand against anyone who dares to lift a hand to throw a rock, even those who attempt to throw rocks. He explains “The United States does not release Pollard for the past 30 years, all said and done a small spy case. The US deals with captives and difficult matters. This administration is dealing with it and we must learn to deal with all the nations of the world in such situation, and there are many solutions”.

He adds when he learned of the capture of the terrorists responsible, who were released in the Shalit deal, it was most difficult for him. Mr. Rosenfeld explains the moment there is a name and a face, there are feelings of revenge, detailing this is especially so in the case of an intentional cold blooded murder.

“May HKBH avenge their blood together with security agencies, exacting the most difficult judgment possible. I am aware there will not be a death penalty but there are other method to punish, heavy punishment along with difficult imprisonment conditions”, Mr. Rosenfeld added.

While Rosenfeld does not expect the government to permit passing a death penalty for terrorists, he feels this is a necessary step, explaining “Out Arab enemy only understands a firm hand. All of their governments are premised on dictatorships and hard hand policies. The more leniency exhibited the more they pick up their heads. I simply do not understand the government. Have you any idea how many people are sentenced to death in the PA (Palestinian Authority)? Even the USA and the Torah also has many rulings in this area including a murderer that does not reach a City of Refuge”.

When asked if he believes the murderers of his son should be put to death, Mr. Rosenfeld says this should be the case, for then terrorists will know the price to be paid if and when they are apprehended.
