IDF Soldier Injured in Third Training Accident in Less Than Three months


On Tuesday afternoon, a training accident took place at an IDF base in the Jordan Valley region. The accident, which took place during a training exercise, resulted in one soldier being lightly injured. The soldier was airlifted to a hospital in stable condition.

The IDF Spokesperson’s unit has announced that the IDF will be investigating the incident and the reasons as to why it occurred.

Already this fall the IDF has seen a fatal training exercise. Second Lieutenant Avshalom Armoni, 22, of Beit Horon and Sergeant Avinoam Cohen, 22, of Jerusalem were accidentally killed in a training accident in the Golan in Late September. During the incident, an artillery cannon, one which is self-propelled flipped over when it fell into a ditch.

Another artillery soldier was injured in the southern base of Shivta. During the incident, a grenade exploded near him while he was involved in a training exercise. Military Police has been conducting an ongoing investigation into that incident. It has also been decided to cancel all grenade training for the entire base of Shivta until the end of the investigation.

In early September, a soldier was seriously injured when a grenade exploded near him during training at the Artillery Corps’ training base at Shivta, in the southern Negev. The military police opened an investigation into the incident. It was also decided to stop using grenades during training until the end of the initial investigation.
