Shlomo Benizri Asks President Rivlin For A Pardon

Former Minister Shlomo Benizri is considering asking President Reuven Rivlin for a pardon to erase his criminal past in order to clear his name.

His family told Kikar Shabbos News that “after the public was exposed to the truth that the main state witness against him, Moshe Sela, lied, admitted that he had lied… it was time to clear his name.”

“A retrial can take years, and after what we’ve gone through, there’s no chance we’ll go back to that, but at least purging his name through amnesty is the minimum he deserves.”

However, his family stressed that “he does not intend to return to politics, it is not what he wants now, but he does care that the state recognize the huge injustice that was done to him. Not the post that was in the past. ”

It should be noted that even before the examination of the polygraph Sela passed, Benizri intended to file the pardon request two years before the end of the disgraceful period, and this is part of the 70th anniversary of the State of Israel and the pardons that President Rivlin is granting these days.
