After suffering a minor stroke on Shabbos, Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita is B”H reported in good condition and has been reported earlier, has since been released from Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.
A person close to Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita quoted anonymously in the media speaks of Rav Akiva Eiger who was moichel on his Torah but cited HK”BH is not moichel on his Torah. The source stated “statements made by Rav Amnon Yitzchak broke the rav”.
The report quotes the source close to the rav saying “he was a bit weak on Friday night. The rav is undergoing a difficult time period. The matter of the planned induction of bnei Torah into the IDF has the rav extremely troubled. There are times he does not sleep at night because he fears the harsh gezeira.
“On Friday night Minister Ariel Atias joined the rav for the seudas Shabbos. There are those who believe the rav is not aware of what is taking place. Some of his sons seek to protect him because they are concerned over his health. They did not want the rav to hear what is taking place regarding Rav Amnon Yitzchak and Rabbi Chaim Amsellem. Last week however, the rav insisted on hearing the news regarding the Amnon Yitzchak campaign and he was briefed by on the details.
“Yesterday the rav was briefed again regarding R’ Amnon. Rav Ovadia heard the statements released by R’ Amnon, explaining how R’ Amnon claims R’ Ovadia will not meet with him. He was also briefed on the events surrounding Rabbi Chaim Amsellem’s election bid.
“There can be no doubt that the rav took the new very hard, to heart, and this was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
“The rav summoned his sons and told the story of Rav Akiva Eiger and how during his time the residents of the city stated one cannot rely on a psak Halacha of his. Rav Akiva Eiger took it very hard, opened the Heichal and began to cry.
“Immediately after telling the story the rav added ‘I do not want to tell this story to the public for I do not want the public to think that I am comparing myself to Rabbi Akiva Eiger.’ Those of us present understand what the rav meant by the statement he was moichel on his Torah but cited HK”BH is not moichel on his Torah.”
Regarding the cerebral incident sustained by the rav, the source is quoted as explaining “As is his custom nightly, the rav learned late into the night. In the middle of the night it was clear something had occurred. When the rav arrived at minyan Shabbos morning he did not feel well. He was not himself.
“There was a doctor in the minyan and he entered the rav’s room to check him. ‘The rav had a stroke’ he explained to us. We immediately summoned EMS to the scene to take the rav to the hospital. Baruch Hashem the rav is feeling well and we hope he will return home in the coming days.”
HaGaon HaRav Aaron Leib Shteinman Shlita has called on the tzibur to be mispallel for the Gadol Hador’s refuah, הרב עובדיה בן ג’ורג’יה.
