I’ve often heard of halachic challenges facing a Yid who buys shares of a publicly traded company in the food industry, like the possibility of owning chometz during Pesach, etc.

Is there a similar concern when buying shares of a financial institution like a bank, mortgage company or brokerage house which may engage in ribis (taking or paying interest) or other Torah-proscribed activities?

Most jews own shares in companies that might own chometz over pesach, via such outlets as mutual funds , pension funds etc, but they do not have a controlling vote so according to most its not a big deal

Unless you have a controlling voting share, I would not worry about it

You could invest in Muslim banks, which apparently use something like a heter iska.

May be okay if it’s limited liability

Rabbi Yitzhak Grossman has a Business Halacha PDF online

“the business halacha institute investments , hedge funds, and hilchos ribbis”
