When the baal koreh reaches the word ” Koeileh” in Maftir, why do people need to sing along with the baal koreh? Firstly, it is difficult to hear him say the word if the entire shul joins in and therefore renders that part of the Kriyah invalid, secondly why specifically at that juncnture? What is so special about the word koeilah and the trop that the entire Ashkenazic world does the same thing in unison. How long has this been going on for? Where is the mekoir for it? How do we put an end to the Koeileh fanatics?
Meh. Who really cares? It’s annoying, sure. But it doesn’t invalidate the Kriah. As long as the Oleh hears it’s fine.
Nah, it’s quaint. We get a kick out of it.
