yes, and how come lemons have such a bad reputation anyway. they are wonderful, lemon meringue pie, i wouldnt drink tea without lemon, lemonade on a hot day, and they can make the blandest fish taste delicious.
and ever hear advertisements talk about "lemon fresh scent"?

"Anyone may arrange his affairs so that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which best pays the treasury. There is not even a patriotic duty to increase one's taxes. Over and over again the Courts have said that there is nothing sinister in so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everyone does it, rich and poor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands."

I was wondering the same thing.

    I heard from chassidisheh sources:
Yi'ush itself is not an aveirah, but it leads to the biggest aveiros.

Or a spin on the words of the gemarah- yi'ush shelo mida'as-if s/o is miya'esh he is shelo mida'as

is that what was meant, yeush about life, as opposed to a state of mind that allows changes, like in property ownership?

and the quote seems to be saying that in whichever case, yeush doesnt even exist, not that its bad.

Mod- the simple meaning is as you understood, my qoute is a drash- you won't find it in any litvishe seforim.

I was wondering the same thing about what Rav Nachman, zt"l meant. It may be slightly misquoted. Any one have an insights on that?

    total guess

maybe he meant that even though there is a certain level at which yeush acts similar to hefker, truly there is no complete yeush because a human being, no matter how hopeless and even impossible it seems, still has an attachment to his property and on some deep level still thinks hell get it back, something like that.

or if were talking about yeush as in giving up hope in life, maybe he meant something similar to what i conjectured about property.

If you're working off the literal meaning of the gemarah, I would have to disagree since according to all opinions yiush mida'as is yiu'sh. They only dispute the din of yiu'sh shelo mida'as.

Nice try Mod , but no cigar(excuse the cliche- I just left the smoker thread)

Sorry , I lost you there. But either way if his saying is in any way related to property ownership it would not make sense why there would be no such thing as yiu'sh. Or am I still not following you?

im just guessing, really shouldnt be doing this but what i meant is that in almost everything the Rabbaim set a shiur, i was saying maybe he meant that even when the shiur is reached and the yeush is chal, there is never really complete yeush because that is not the way of human nature

Mod 80 - I don't know if this is from R. Nachman, but I did hear a quote on that. Perhaps this is the same what AOM was trying to say:
The gemorrah says "Yiush Shelo Meedas". So whomever (possibly R. Nachman) explains -If you're Meyouish in life (If you give up on life) -Shelo Meedas (because you don't have [without] Daas -in other words -because you lost your mind)!
