Are comfy couches to blame for Americans stagnancy and reduced physical exercise today?

In the 1700’s, one always walked to work. Only the “1%” would have carriages (and they were often fat – in fact, in that period being fat was a sign of affluence and being overweight was considered “good” when looking for shiduch, for both genders and in all cultures).

Consider how few people raise/capture, slaughter and butcher animals or farm and process grain or produce for personal consumption. Personally speaking, I do all my hunting, fishing and harvesting at the local supermarket or fast-food joint.
I also don’t chop wood for cooking or heat, weave fabrics or scrub my laundry at the river edge as most likely did my ancestors.
I even have devices that manage labor-saving devices (think auto bill-pay)! I’ve practically put my existence on automatic pilot. Hypothetically speaking, If not for friends and family, how long might my disappearance go unnoticed?

Just like I wonder about Lilmod Ulemaid and tell myself that she’s baruch Hashem okay and simply busy and needs to take care of herself and is off in the universe doing amazing things!
By the way, isn’t that why the IRS and taxes help people? Because at least the people at IRS makes an effort to find out about people that they’ve never met, plus they have the funds and rights to do so?
