I figured out the real pshat, because I am the popa.

The kasha is why the chareidi norm in Israel is univeral kollel when that was not the norm in Europe.

See, the tzionim like to think that modern day Israel is the ???? ?????. And we all know that in ???? ?????, we will all be ????? ??? ??? ???? ???? ?????. (I can’t find a real source for this, but cheder pshat is that means we’ll all sit and learn Torah under our trees.)

So you see, we are the real zionists and you are the fakers.

    Eat it.

    The Rambam says ???? ?????? ????, except that there will be shalom bein Yisrael l’amim (because the animals will all be vegetarian i.e. ????? ????? ????? ??? ???? = ????’?? ????? ???? ????? ??????

So it’s an asmachta to in Navi when they were at peace with the neighbors they called it ??? ??? ????.)

Edit: I think I mean a gezeira shava.

If anyone would be willing to pay me $100 a day for sitting and learning, I’d do it.

The only flaw is, poppa, that the Chareidim hold we are in ????? ??????, as opposed to ????? ??????

Anyway, I may as well write here while I have your attention what the real real pshat is.

While the norm in pre-war Europe was that only select few learned long term, the norm in Eretz Yisroel (the old yishuv) was that everybody learned forever. The chareidim who came to Palestine after the war joined the existing community and naturally adopted its norms. This was exacerbated by the deal which only allowed them to avoid the treife army if they would learn.

Contrast to American chareidim, where the system is pretty much like it was in Europe. Among the chassidim, only a select few learn long term; among the litvaks, whoever can afford to and wants to learns long term and others learn shorter terms for as long as they want and then join their father in law’s business or join a profession.

Popa, I agree, and it should be pointed out that since we live in a more affluent situation than pre-war Europe, there are more people able to learn for longer periods of time, b”H.
