The child who was R”L killed in last nights horrific tragedy in Boro Park has been named as of 10-year-old Blima Friedman Z”L. Misaskim tells YWN that the Levaya will take place on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30PM at Shomrei Hadas Chapels. The Kevura will be at Floral Park in New Jersey.

As YWN reported, Blima was crossing a street with her mother on Tuesday night at 18th Avenue and 60th Street, when they were struck by a vehicle. They were briefly pinned under the vehicle, and Hatzolah along with FDNY and NYPD were able to extricate them in just minutes. Blima was transported to Maimonides Hospital, but was tragically Niftar just a short while after arriving at the hospital.

Mrs. Sara Friedman, who was 9 months pregnant, was rushed to the Lutheran Trauma Center, where doctors were able to deliver a healthy baby girl. Mrs. Friedman is listed in serious but stable condition. Please be Mispallel for Chaya Sarah bas Brocha.

The NYPD tells YWN that after a full investigation, it appears that a grey 2015 Honda Odyssey minivan, operated by a 22-year-old male, was traveling northbound on 18 Avenue making a left turn onto westbound 60 Street, when he struck the two female pedestrians who were in the roadway, crossing 60 Street in an unknown direction. The vehicle remained at the scene and the operator was taken into custody.

The driver has been named as Bilal Ghumman, 22, of West 22nd Street in Brooklyn. He has been charged with “unauthorized use of a vehicle, without owner consent”. Sources tell YWN that he was working for a valet parking company, and was quite a distance away from the venue where he was supposed to be working – 14th Avenue and 54th Street. He told authorities that he had used the vehicle without permission to go purchase a drink and cigarettes.

He was also charged with violation of local law (Active Warrant). Law enforcement sources tell YWN that this was an old warrant for Marijuana possession.

In a sad twist, the sister of the child who died was critically injured in a fire on Chanukah in 2009. Miraculously, she made a full recovery after a long period of time in hospitals and rehab facilities. Her father made a tremendous Kiddush Hashem by publicly thanking the FDNY members who risked their lives to save his daughter.

  1. I’d rather walk several blocks to a simcha than leave my car with valet. Besides this unfortunate, tragic incident רמ׳ל. I know many people who received parking & red light tickets in the mail, which they got on their cars, while they were @ simchas. These valet people should have to go through background checks, before being allowed to drive other people’s cars. I have had valet people drive recklessly & cut me off, in order to grab my parking space. Who knows whether they copy your home keys or take items from your car.

  2. It certainly makes you think twice about valet parking. These companies should do proper checks on their drivers, some I’ve seen are really sleazy looking.

  3. What a sad wake up call!
There are so many rhings that we could do differently if we only used our foresight. Why did we need another קרבן in order to be מקיים our מצוה of ונשמרתם מאד לנפשותיכם??

    So sad!

  4. bh bh bh the delivery at least went well, we have to thank hkbh as well! A little light can dispel much darkness, the healthy baby should be a nechama for them.

  5. BD’E.

The owner of the car is up the creek without a paddle because he is going be sued BIG time. I will bet this will cost the hall as well.

  6. So a little girl R”L died in such an horrific way and all you learned was not to give your car to the valet parking people?

  7. “Who knows whether they copy your home keys or take items from your car”.

HUH, you hand over ALL your keys? YOU cant just remove the car key?

  8. NEVER leave any registration or anything with your address in car. One call to a thug from valet driver, your house may be robbed, kids held up. ALSO, I would like to see one BP Rebbe insist on everyone that goes out walking in the dark to wear reflective clothing or arm, waist bands. And pregnant women…think when going out in dark…please

  9. Rabboisay, stop telling pple what to learn from this. It’s none of your business what others should learn. Think between your daled amos and make ammends on your own. We have a hashem up there and he feers the world.

  10. Why do the they hire low life hoodlums and don’t check them out before allowing them to get behind the wheel of a vehicle. They probably don’t even have a valid driver’s license.

  11. Shame on Ateres Chaya for using a valet co. Employing Pakistani Muslims as valets at Jewish affairs. Similar to Har Nof, Jews using their worst enemies. Why? To save a lousy few bucks. Want to save money? Stop traveling to the most exotic places on Earth for vacation where pritzus is everywhere, minyan is nowhere, taavos are everywhere and kosher food is nowhere. Take the lesson already.

  12. 10: Why stop at reflective clothing? Mandatory body armor for all, and everyone under the age of 18 should be required to travel in a fully enclosed stroller, while wearing a helmet. Better yet, let’s prohibit walking in Boro Park. Everyone who doesn’t have a private driveway should be banned from leaving home.

Instead of blaming the victim, how about we have some compassion for them and acknowledge that they did NOTHING WRONG. Going out on foot in the evening is perfectly normal, even in the winter when it happens to get dark early.

What about the driver? We already know the car was stolen (I believe that is the proper term for “taken without the owner’s permission). Was he speeding because he was nervous about being caught? We already know he had an outstanding arrest warrant for marijuana. Was he high?

This is a very sad but highly preventable tragedy. The only thing necessary to prevent it is to be tougher on murderously negligent drivers.
