Did A Kosher Sour Candy Burn Actually Burn A Child’s Tongue? – YWN Speaks To Father, Doctor & Paskez

A photo of a child with what appears to be a burned tongue has gone viral on social media, along with a claim it was caused by a candy he ate called “Sour Worx!”. YWN has been contacted by dozens of readers with the viral photo and asking us for any information.

YWN spoke with the father of the child, as well as the doctor that treated him.

The father tells us that he received a phone call from his child’s school in Lakewood, stating that his son’s tongue was injured. The father spoke to his son and learned that he had eaten a new candy that he had just bought for him, and says it burned his tongue.

The father took the child to a pediatrician in Lakewood, and after examining the child concluded that the tongue was in fact injured or burned from this candy. YWN confirmed this in a phone conversation we had with him on Thursday morning.

YWN reached out to Paskesz, the candy’s manufacturer, and was told the following points by a manager at the company:

  • We learned about this from social media last night.
  • We have not yet spoken to the father or anyone with first hand information.
  • We are investigating the claims.

Paskez told at least one other news outlet that YWN spoke with they would be issuing an official statement, but as of this time, that has yet to happen.

Meanwhile, YWN has found that there have been children who have burned their tongues from sour candies in the past. A story in the Daily Mail UK from 2015 reports that a 7-year-old child sucked on a ‘extreme sour’ flavored Warhead candy (not Kosher), and received what appears to be a very similar burn on his tongue. (See photo below). That candy company has a warning which states “eating multiple pieces within a short time period may cause a temporary irritation to sensitive tongues and mouths”.

  1. That looks like Benign Migratory Glossitis; a relatively harmless condition
wich can be brought on by among other causes, eating certain foods.
The spot should be gone within a week.

When I first found out that I had it, I thought it was a burn to, until I found out otherwise.

  2. we just ate one in Manchester UK and we didnt burn our tongues.

Moderators Note: YWN has absolutely no idea what you are referring to. But keep trolling and have a wonderful day.

  4. The article yesterday did state that ywn put the father in touch with the candy company that part seems to have been removed

Moderators Note: At the request of the father.

  5. I had the same thing happening to me about four weeks ago. My son came home one day with this new candy he got from school that other kids were selling, he dared me to try it and keep it in my mouth until the end, I tried it until it got really bad and disgusting, I ended up spitting it out and told all my kids not to eat it. I woke up the next morning feeling my tongue acid burnt, I looked closely there was a tiny hole on my tongue which later developed into a huge blister and cold soar that I never had before, it took three weeks for it to heal! My kids kept bringing this garbage from school by the dozens, kids in school having a daring game who can eat the most one after the next. Both of my kids ended up with similar tongue rashes and one with a severe soar throat and lost his voice for a week. This is not candy, it’s dangerous and harmful garbage, concentrated citric acid and chemicals, it should be completely banned and immediately taken off the shelves from all stores!!

  6. To the comment English meat:
Can I ask you to do us one favor?

I think you will feel much more comfortable at those web sites.
I am really wondering if you are married. If it just so happens to be that you are married. If you do happen to have a child, does he or she speak Loshon Horoh?

  7. We had a similar problem with the “Happiness” Roller Ball Liquid Fun candy in the Sour Apple flavor. After rolling it all day my daughter’s tongue was bleeding.
