Jerusalem District Court Judge Yaakov Tzaban on Sunday, 29 Tammuz 5774, read the indictments against Yosef Chaim Ben-David, 29, of Adam, the main defendant and co-defendants, two 16-year-old residents from Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh. The three are charged with the brutal kidnapping and murder of 16-year-old Jerusalem Arab resident Muhmad Abu-Khadir, who was kidnapped, beaten and set ablaze while still alive.
Prior to entering the courtroom, asked by reporters if he feels remorse, Ben-David said “I am Moshiach”. Defense attorney Aaron Rosa told reporters his client is not of proper state of mind.
In a related matter, 11 Shuafat residents charged on Sunday for their alleged crimes related to the widespread Arab rioting in areas of the capital following the murder.
On Sunday 29 Tammuz, rioting continued including rock-throwing attacks against the Jerusalem light rail.
