Chetboun May Leave Yishai’s Yachad List

yichFormer Bayit Yehudi MK Yoni Chetboun hold the number 2 slot on the new Yachad party list headed by Eli Yishai. Chetboun has proven to be a man of integrity as he voted against his own party and paid a heavy political price when he did not feel he could back the chareidi draft law.

Chetboun is now threatening to leave Yachad over the planned inclusion of the Otzma Yehudit party and adding Baruch Marzel to the lineup. He explained the party is becoming “all inclusive just to pass the minimum threshold”, citing there is a member of the Breslov chassidus and the list as well.

Chetboun has not hidden his objections to including the Otzma party, but now he is making it clear – giving party leader Eli Yishai an ultimatum.

Rabbi Moshe Hager has already announced he is breaking from the lineup “for shalom bayis” as he put it but those in know explain his decision was also linked to the imminent signing of a deal with Otzma Yehudit.

  1. The deal with Otzma Yehudit is a desperate move by Yishai and one that he will come to regret. In the eyes of most Israelis he is making a deal with the devil. It will make it extremely difficult, and quite likely impossible, to invite him to join a coalition. Which makes a vote for him a waste, whether he passes the threshold or not.
