Rav David Yosef: The Torah World is in Danger

dyoRabbi David Yosef Shlita, a member of the Shas party Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael is concerned regarding the upcoming national elections for the 20th Knesset. Rabbi Yosef explains that “we have nothing at all against the dati leumi but we are chareidim”. He explained that Shas cannot and will not begin adding non-religious and others to the list to find favor in the eyes of others I the hope of receiving additional votes.

The rav made his remarks during as shiur in the Beit Shemesh kollel run by Mayor Rabbi Moshe Abutbul. Rabbi Yosef stressed repeatedly that the upcoming elections are critical regarding the future of the Torah world. “There are many poor persons in Israel, including many in our community”.

The rav took a stab at Bayit Yehudi, saying “We have ideology and we do not mix just for the sake of additional votes”. He added that Shas has its beliefs and it remains loyal to them.

  1. How is it that he can approve and endorse the Shas while it is being run by a convicted felon? It doesn’t sound very charadi to me.

  2. Re prior comment, convicted felon, by a court that wanted to see him and all successful chareidim locked up. Similar to anti-Semitism but only targeting one segment of klal yisroel.

  3. Dovid from modiin, I’m not really sure what the surprise is. Just take אמת out of all these equations and it will all make perfect sense !!

  4. What are their beliefs?
    1) Torah Emes, v’Soraso Emes
    2) The yud”gimil ikrim
    3) Mesorah
    4) Emunas Chachomim
    5) Ahavas Yisroel

  5. Actually the way things are working out, the Shomer Mitsvos community is doing well. Yachad will attract those alienated from Shas and Yahadut Torah on the frum side (who would abstain rather than vote for Bayit Yehudi), as well as those alienated from Bayit Yehudi who would never vote for a a hareidi party. At the same time, those to the “left” will tend to go to Kulanu (whose leader has come out against conscription of yeshiva students). Except for the small number of anti-zionists who abstain, the frum population will not waste any votes (assuming all the aforementioned pass the threshold).
