Independent UK Distorts Beis Rochel D’Satmar ‘Day of Deliverance’

satThe Independent newspaper has falsely accused the Beis Rochel D’Satmar Girls’ school in London, of teaching its students that “non-Jews are evil” in a recent report. When celebrating the 21st Kislev, the day that the Satmar community was saved from the horrors of the Holocaust as their founding Rabbi, Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum escaped the Nazis, the students are reminded of their history by studying about that time period. The students were given a worksheet during lessons in the context of learning about the Nazis and their history and asked to answer questions based on what they had learned.

The worksheet referred to Nazis as ‘goyim’. The newspaper failed to understand the context and mischievously suggested that children were being taught that goyim rather than Nazis, were evil.

The Independent falsely accused the school of fearmongering, encouraging young children to believe that all non-Jews are evil. Although this is simply not the case, to avoid any confusion the school will explicitly refer to Nazis next year when teaching its students about the history of the 21st Kislev.

Speaking on behalf of the school Shimon Cohen said: “The leaflet that the Independent refers to was handed out on the 21st Kislev, when the Satmar community celebrates the rescue of their founding rabbi from horrors of the Holocaust. This was explained in detail to the Independent, but they chose to ignore the facts and pursue their mischievous story.”

“The questions were only talking about the specific event, but there is no Yiddish word for Nazis. The suggestion that children are being taught that non-Jews are evil is nonsense and simply false. They are being taught that Nazis are evil.”

“It is almost like, if you are sitting around a seder table and you say that the goyim made us build pyramids, you are obviously talking about the Egyptians. You’re not talking about the Welsh. It’s just daft.”

Mr Cohen said that, next year, the school would explicitly refer to Nazis to avoid any confusion. “We will be very clear to avoid any misunderstanding,” he said. “But then, for Yiddish speakers, it was clear. This is a storm in a tea-cup.”

  1. wow Im amazed at the extant of how [EXPLETIVE REMOVED BY YWN] with SATMAR what happened since the last time you were critical of Satamar did they wine and dine you or did they back mail you …..ppl are still waiting for you to post the satmara shita regarding IRAN DEAL but I know its never going to happen .

  2. This story, like virtually all such similar stories, was peddled to the Independent by ex-Orthodox self-hating Jews who after becoming apikorsim have a hatred for Orthodox Judaism and their former Orthodox brethren. They are bitter and typically unemployed or underemployed with lots of time to kill, which they utilize by writing fiction about the Torah, what the Torah and Halacha say and falsely attributing views to Orthodox Jews.

  3. “The newspaper failed to understand the context and mischievously suggested that children were being taught that goyim rather than Nazis, were evil” –

NOT just the newspaper failed to understand ALSO the children failed to understand the difference between GOYIM & Nazis. Guess Satmar will have to either use an ENGLISH WORD or make up a new word for NAZI. Children are very literal and teaching hatred for Non-Jews, or those who drive on Shabbos or dress differently is incitement!!!

  4. This Rosh Hashana when we Daven for Refuah Shleimo, we should show our children that we include Goyim that are R”L not well.
At the same time we will show HKB”H that we have compassion to all his Briot Btzelem Elokim, and HE will Never-Again bring on any holocaust onto us.

  5. @ader: are you implying that the holocaust was wrought upon us because of a lack of compassion on our part towards non jews?

  6. From the article: “A whistle-blower, who wished to remain anonymous, has shown The Independent a worksheet given to boys aged three and four at the school. In it, children were asked to complete questions related to the holiday of 21 Kislev …”

3 and 4 year olds completing worksheets? I don’t think so.

    Shoddy journalism.

  7. To #5, It hurts, but its the truth.

To #6, You can not Daven to HKB”H for a Refuah, while implying that, “those other children you don’t have to heal”. It just brings on a Kitrug CH”V.

  8. To #9 Although it is a nice-sounding liberal sentiment and one more wonderful nevuah explaining why us Jews suffered a holocaust kindly back up this “truth” as you authoritatively state it as being with a basis from the Torah.

#6 quoted you a nusach of our tefillah that comes from our mesorah all the way up yet you say “it justs brings a kitrug ch”v”. WHERE ARE YOU COMING FROM??

  9. Did you ever hear the language our children use when speaking of any Eino Yehudi? The children are Echod B’lev and Echod B’beh. We try to act nice but it’s not Blev.
Do you know that HKB”H keeps on creating thousands of Eino Yehudim on a daily basis with Gevaldiga Chochmo? (see the end of Russ). When one Umah hates another, but tries to hide it, HKB”H will somehow give them the feeling, and instill a feeling of hatred into that Umah.
