Eritrean Man Mistaken For Second Terrorist in Beersheva Bus Terminal is Shot And Beaten By Angry Mob

b02During Sundays terrorist attack at the Central Bus terminal in Beersheva, police mistook an Eritrean man for a second terrorist, and opened fire, wounding him in the lower body. He was fired upon by border police and Yassam commando police.

A video shot by a bystander afterwards shows an angry mob surrounding the Eritrean man, with one kicking him with great force in the head, while others curse him and another kicks him in the head and is pushed back.

He remains in critical condition.

  1. Wow!
I wonder if Halachah requires (all those involved in hurting this man) to beg him for forgiveness.
Either when he recovers. Or with a Minyan at his Graveside.
(It may also require monetary compensation.)

    This is quite disturbing.
(Even if he’s an illegal immigrant. Is he? In any case, this is vexing.)

  2. An Eritrean Man is a man form Eritrea. Eritrea is a country of northeast Africa bordering on the Red Sea. Once part of the Ethiopian kingdom of Aksum, it became an Italian colony in 1890 and was named after the Roman term for the Red Sea, Mare erythraeum. It is officially named the State of Eritrea, and is a country in the Horn of Africa. With its capital at Asmara, it is bordered by Sudan in the west, Ethiopia in the south, and Djibouti in the southeast.

  3. The poor man died, its awful tht he was innocent and that he got killed…granted i understand tht everyone is frightened and fed up with beong pushed around, still…

  4. Very Weird, there have been so many recent attacks with the Terrorist laying either Dead or Critically Injured, this is the only time an angry mob vented and its a Mistake!!!

  5. To me, this incident feels like a situation that has just gotten more terrible, Rachmana Litzlan. Understandably, due to the traumatic unknown of who is about to suddenly perpetrate a deadly attack, people are now faced with internal hyper-reactions. The accursed yishmaelim are affecting us in a way that is completely contrary to who we are.

Jews to NOT want to hurt innocent people. We are as disturbed by such a mistake, as much, or even more than we are disturbed by being attacked ourselves.

The situation is so out of control, that it is blatantly obvious that it can only be fixed by the intervention of HaShem, the ONLY ONE who knows the inner thoughts and intentions of a person. No soldier, guard, or yeshiva bachur with self-defense training knows which innocent looking person on the street, or in the mall, or driving a car is about to attempt murder. Yes, there is some sort of profiling that the experts have established. But an incident like this shows us overtly, that we are really at the mercy of HaShem.

I think that even a die-hard believer in “Kochi V’Otzem Yadi”, can see that this terror can only truly be stopped by a Power that is Higher than any human ideas, skills, and brainstorming.

May our tefillos be heard, accepted, and responded to in a way that we can again feel a general sense of safety.
