Mayor Says for Son Dante, Fear of Police ‘Part of Reality’

Mayor Bill de Blasio offered a very personal take on the deadly police-involved shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota during an interview Monday morning.

He appeared on CNN’s “New Day” with first lady Chirlane McCray and renewed his call for unity between the police and the community.

But he also spoke about fears that people of color face every day, including his own son.

“When I talk to Dante, it’s come to the point that he assumes that this is a part of life, a part of reality. Doesn’t mean he’s hopeless, doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to be a part of changing the world, but I think it’s a very simple equation. If you have white children you don’t have to give them that particular warning, you gotta prepare them for a lot of other things in life, but you don’t have to give them that particular warning,” De Blasio said.

  1. What’s Deblabla complaining about? He moved into Gracie Mansion for free and poor little Dante now has so many bathrooms to choose from. What an ungrateful rebel rouser.

  2. Why are Blacks always לחומרא? Obama had a Black father and White mother, he’s Black. This guy has a White or red father and Black mother and he’s Black! Is somebody with only one Black grandparent also Black? Do Blacks have any מנהגים regarding the rules of what makes somebody Black? It seems to be a זוהמא that always counts unless it’s Totally not there.

  3. Perhaps if this kid didn’t look like the typical urban thug punk with the “‘fro” hairdo, etc., he’d have no fear of police. Everyone profiles, not just police. Every hear the expression, “First impressions count”? Drag him to a barber shop, put him in respectable clothes, and poof–problems solved.

  4. Looking at the Mayors son in the above photo I would not want to meet him in a dark alley. But, the Mayor is a total idiot as to make a statement as he did. He is just adding more fuel to the fire.

  5. I being a older frum man also have a fear of police, therefore in every interaction with them I use “yes sir” or “no sir” and act extremely respectful.

I do not envy the policemen. They know that their life in on line in every interaction with the public. Therefore it behooves the public to act towards them with extreme respect.

  6. Statistically speaking dante’s chances of being a victim of black on black crime far outweigh the odds of him being a victim of a white police officer. But how can our doofis mayor with the angry wife be bothered with facts when he’s so busy being the most racially divisive, anti-police mayor nyc has had since the inept dinkins. I’d love to hear from the mayor’s director of P.R. and liason to the frum community, Charlie Hall on this issue.

  7. This is the warning that Jewish parents have had to teach their children for millenia. This is the reality for Jews on college campuses across the US, and for the Jewish people in their own country and around the globe. In France it’s not considered safe to look Jewish or to wear a kippah. it seems that Mayor Deblasio is saying that protests by Black Lives Matter groups, that turn into riots, where they destroy property, where people are hurt or killed in the name of “free speech” is almost to be expected.

  8. #7 Well, if his wife is black, there’s a 50% chance his children would have their mother’s color. Don’t you think so?

Why is he wearing his spoddik – or is it a shtreimel? – so low? Good thing he has ears to hold it up.

  9. That is how the mayor won the election; with Dante’s “fro” and daughter’s addiction. He appealed to certain population.

  10. Arye… ya beat me to it… a perfectly fitting shtreimel my first reaction to the picture, perhaps this could be the new Shtreimlach except that then there would a problem with donning Tefillin properly
