Rav Metzger Likely To Accept 3.5 Year Jail Term In Plea Bargain Agreement

1Former Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger has signed a plea bargain agreement which will most likely result in a 3.5-year jail term. The rabbi agreed to a deal after realizing the damaging evidence against him may result in a far more severe outcome if he takes his chances in a criminal trial.

At one point, the rabbi’s attorney offered a confession in exchange for an 18-month jail term, which the state called a “nonstarter”.

According to the Channel 2 News report, Rabbi Metzger during his term as Chief Rabbi of Israel received over NIS 10 million in bribes, some taken in the form of astronomically high commission from tzedaka funds collected.

  1. Can anyone show the source why tbis is not pure loshon hora?
The chofetz chaim clearly says that even if something is public knowledge to many it is loshon hora to publicize

  2. I don’t know if it’s LH, but it is a massive Chilul Hashem. It’s no surprise that the Chilonim see us as hypocrites & crooks when a man in his position scams the community. How the mighty are fallen.

  3. And a big round of applause to UTJ for their tireless efforts to get Rabbi Metzger appointed – in order to block the appointment of harav Yaacov Ariel, the candidate of the religious zionists. Way to go guys. What an example you set. Ugh.

  4. #2 It’s a chillul Hashem to believe mainstream media fake news when it’s loshon hora against Jews. Haven’t you learned by now that most Jews languishing in Israeli prisons are innocent? Have you ever heard Fakestream media coming back reporting about the ones released because they were innocent? Of course not. They wouldn’t do that, it’s not sensational enough. Instead of accusing Jews as crooks and hypocrites, accuse yourself for falling so low and accepting LH and motzi shem ra. 1 or 2 halachos of LH a day can help you.

  5. #1, learn laws of lashon harah.

It is publicly known already, so talking about it is NOT lashon haRah.

BTW, does Metzger get to keep the monies he embezzled?

Its people like you that the Chofetz Chaim was referring to.
I learnt it.You didnt ,but rather have that notion in your head from one line that you hear in the street.
Go read klal Bais Sefer Shmiras Haloshon in detail.
    Have you ever?
It is “NOT permitted for YWN” to relay public knowledge nor is it permitted for one to believe it.
Go see shailos utshovas lchofetz chaim siman 28…where he clearly discusses it as well.It is prohibited under 99% of the time…go see the 6 conditions needed!!!!!!!!

If the intention of the one relaying it is “to reveal the information and to spread the news”…it is prohibited even if public knowledge.
If the listener (or reader) of the information will accept the information definitively…it is prohibited to relay.
It is prohibited to believe as truth even if read in paper.
    Etc

  8. Besides the above prohibition for public knowledge; it may not even be considered public …as perhaps public in Israel but not in the USA papers.
EITHER WAY…IT IS PROHIBITED TO RELAY EVEN PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE PER ABOVE.
Please show me exact sources to look up if you so firmly know otherwise.
