Republicans Applaud Hikind At GOP Bash – Thanking Him For 6 Days Of Turner Support

The New York State Republican Party rolled out the red carpet for an Democratic lawmaker who crossed party lines to back Bob Turner’s successful bid for Anthony Weiner’s congressional seat.

State GOP chairman Ed Cox recognized Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov. Hikind at the party’s annual dinner at the Sheraton Midtown tonight. The party faithful enthusiastically applauded Hikind.

Hikind, accompanied by his wife, Shoshana, said he was invited by Turner. He said he hadn’t attended a state GOP dinner before.

“Nice people are nice people,’’ Hikind said of his attendance.

During a pre-dinner press conference with GOP leaders, Turner thanked former Democratic Mayor Koch and Hikind for their support.

“Ed Koch is terrific. Dov Hikind got the job done,’’ Turner said.

Hikind crossed party lines to endorse Turner on September 7th, just 6 days before the election. It is unknown why he waited until just a few days before the election to make the move. Hikind told the NY Post in late August that he will not be supporting Weprin due to his outspoken support of gay marriage.

  1. So doesn’t he, and a good many “Democrats in Name Only”, switch parties for 2012 and run as a Republican. The 21st century Democratic party is not a good fit for the Orthodox community. With their policies on abortion, sex, and Israel (and risking Weimar style inflation to fund their patronage projects), it is the Democrats who have deserted us.
