Prof. Daphna Barak-Erez and Tel Aviv District Court Justice Uri Shoham have been appointed to the High Court of Justice.
Barak-Erez, who served as deacon of Tel Aviv University Law School is known for her left-wing anti-religious leanings. Justice Shoham was selected after the outcry that the High Court lacks Sephardi representation following the retirement of Justice Edmond Levi. The justices name was changed from Sharavani.
The two replace Justices Dorit Beinish and Eliezer Rivlin, who retired after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70. As a result of the changes, Justice Miriam Naor becomes the vice president of the court in place of Rivlin.
