HaRav Mordechai Eliyahu Shlita has come out in support of Nir Barkat, the secular candidate in the Jerusalem mayoral race.

According to a Kol Chai Radio report, the mayoral hopeful learned of the support of the former Rishon L�Tzion from one of his son�s, Shlomo Eliyahu, and from the Rav�s personal assistant, Rabbi Shmuel Zafrani.

According to all the election polls, Barkat remains ahead against Meir Porush and Uri Lupoliansky, and ties in a race against former Shas leader Aryeh Deri.
