There are three mountain tapirs in North America. Mojito and Inca are at the Los Angeles Zoo. Mochi is at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Of these three, Mojito is the youngest at 17, Inca is 27 and Mochi is 26.
There are fewer than 2500 of these amazing animals remaining in the wild. While we must hold out hope that the numbers will increase, it’s not looking great right now. So you should drop everything and go and see a mountain tapir today.
Where can I buy one as a pet?
Needed to google it. I was hoping for some cool jungle cat. Instead got a cross between a sloth and anteater. Hard pass.
