New York corrections officials plan to consolidate housing units at 14 state prisons, merge two infirmaries and close farms at a dozen prisons to save $8.7 million. The Department of Correctional Services says it anticipates cutting 134 jobs for correction officers, mostly eliminating vacant jobs but including 44 through attrition.
