LAKEWOOD — In a sweeping display of harbatzas haTorah that has moved kehillos across the world, the Dirshu organization has completed a massive sefarim distribution campaign unlike anything previously undertaken. Over the past several weeks, thousands of complete sets of the acclaimed Dirshu edition of the Mishnah Berurah — together with additional sefarim of the Chofetz Chaim zt”l, including Shemiras HaLashon — have been delivered directly to the doors of shuls, kollelim, yeshivos, and mosdos haTorah across the Jewish world.
he initiative was driven by the vision of Dirshu Nasi Rabbi David Hofstedter, who recognized the pressing need to place these fundamental sefarim within reach of every ben Torah who wants them. From its inception, the campaign was carried out in direct fulfillment of the sacred tzava’ah of the Chofetz Chaim zt”l, who charged future generations with the responsibility of spreading clear halacha and mussar throughout Klal Yisrael.
The sheer scale of the logistical operation has left gabaim and roshei mosdos across the country in awe. Mindful of the financial constraints facing many community shuls and neighborhood batei medrash, Rabbi David Hofstedter personally ensured the sefarim were made available at extraordinary, unprecedented discounts. To further ease the burden on local community leaders, Dirshu arranged for heavy pallets of sefarim to be delivered directly to shul addresses for a nominal delivery fee — removing every possible obstacle between a yid and his limud.
“Our goal has always been to ensure that nothing stands between a Yid and his learning,” Rabbi David Hofstedter explained in a recent address. “To see thousands of shuls and batei medrash around the world illuminated by the Torah and psak of the Chofetz Chaim — through our biurim that make the halacha clear and accessible — is a true geshmak and a fulfillment of our sacred mission.”
The response from the field was overwhelming. A first-come, first-served registration process generated such a rush of requests from gabaim worldwide that Dirshu was compelled to expand its hotlines to handle the volume. Today, thousands of bnei Torah who walk through the doors of their local shul for Shacharis, Mincha, Maariv, or a late-night seder are already learning from the newly arrived volumes — complete with the renowned Biur Safah Berurah of Oz V’Hadar and the concise marei mekomos that allow for a deeper and more efficient grasp of practical halacha.
“To bring pure halacha into the hearts of Klal Yisrael is our ultimate zechus,” said Rabbi David Hofstedter. “This is exactly what the Chofetz Chaim asked of us.”
As the campaign winds down due to limited quantities and established distribution criteria, prominent askanim describe the initiative as one more link in the golden chain of global
