I have recently arrived in Israel as a retiree. I want to rent an apartment, but I was concerned since I am not making aliyah officially. Will Israel question me regarding my prolonged stay. Do I need a visa to stay here? I will be going back an forth periodically to the States. I still maintain my assets there, pay taxes to the US and I am not working in Israel. I was just curious because over the years of coming here, I never stayed more than 3 1/2 months. This time is different. Perhaps I am over-thinking this, but I wasn’t planning on questioning my status until someone mentioned I couldn’t stay longer than 3 months without a visa….I’m puzzled because I will not be working here. Any advice??

Nefesh b’Nefesh has a number of articles on their site that can help you with some of your questions.

thank you for the reply, I went to the site, but it was not entirely clear about my situation. I’m guessing if I leave the country often enough, I won’t have to worry about a visa at all.

A tourist visa, to the best of my recollection is for 3 months. They usually don’t make a big deal if you are slitely overdue. If you leave regularly you should have no problem.
