What are the reasons that many people are not makpid for yoshon in chutz la’Aretz?
June 27, 2012 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm #881072ItcheSrulikMemberThe main reason is because people weren’t in Europe where it was practically impossible.

In short, we’re lenient about it for practical reasons, as Itche says, and because Rema and others approves of the general custom of being lenient about it.
June 28, 2012 2:55 am at 2:55 am #881075Sam2Participantyytz: I certainly hope we are not lenient for the Rama. Because his S’fek S’feka (Dachuk enough to begin with) is not at all applicable nowadays because it’s definitely Efshar Livrurei B’kal. The FDA puts out all the relevant information every year. We are probably Meikil like the Bach (though Rav Schachter quotes an interesting Avnei Neizer).

Both wrong! The Rema is applicable in the US. We had this Machlokus in the past. And I’m not going to start it again. It got very heated. Check out the topic about it here in the CR.
