Besalel, you seem to be implying that the Amoraim didn’t put much attention to Divrei Aggadah. In Eiruvin 53b you will see the Gemara quoting two versions of Rebbi Avahu’s riddle, with a very small difference between them. So it seems like they did bother to get it right.
